American Bach Soloists is accepting applications for service on the ABS Board of Directors. Below you can find information about becoming a board member, and on other pages, you can find information about joining a committee or becoming a concert or office volunteer. Regardless of how you wish to get more involved, we appreciate your willingness to continue to support American Bach Soloists.
MISSION
The American Bach Soloists are leading performers in the field of Baroque music, dedicated to historically informed performances of Bach and his contemporaries. ABS provides meaningful, memorable, and valuable musical experiences for our audiences through inspiring performances and recordings, and it supports the preservation of early music through educational programs for students and emerging professionals.

You have the time and energy to spend 6-10 hours per month doing board work, participating in committee work, and being an ambassador for ABS in your community
You are motivated to become a great fundraiser and prepared to learn new skills in this role.
About the Board
The Board of Directors is expected to safeguard the mission, ensure the organization’s legal and financial health, and lead fundraising efforts.
The Board of Directors meets six times per year plus a half-day annual retreat usually in the fall.
There is a $1,000 requested minimum contribution which may be made personally or by raising said funds through other asks and opportunities ("Give or Get").
Normal board membership is for one 3-year term, but may be extended by a vote of the board. We do not have term limits.
The Board is led by an executive committee consisting of the President, the Secretary, and the Treasurer.

As a Board Member
- I will interpret the organization’s work and values to the community, and promote the organization.
- I will attend at least 75% of board and committee meetings, concerts, and special events.
- I will make a personal financial contribution at a level that is meaningful to me.
- I will actively participate in one or more fundraising activities.
- I will actively participate in one or more standing committees.
- I will act in the best interests of the organization, and excuse myself from discussions and votes where I have a conflict of interest.
- I will take seriously the major legal responsibilities of serving on a board, including and especially the fiduciary role.
- I will stay informed about what’s going on in the organization. I will ask questions and request information. I will participate in and take responsibility for making decisions on issues, policies, and other board matters.
- I will work in good faith with staff and other board members as partners towards achievement of our goals.
- I will receive an orientation to the board by the Executive Director and a current member of the Board of Directors.
From American Bach Soloists
- I will be sent, without request, quarterly financial reports and an update of organizational activities that allow me to act as a “prudent person” in my legal responsibilities as a board member.
- Opportunities will be offered to me to discuss with the Executive Director and the Board President the organization’s programs, goals, activities, and status; additionally, I can request such opportunities.
- Board members and staff will respond in a straightforward fashion to questions I have that I feel are necessary to carry out my fiscal, legal, and moral responsibilities to this organization. Board members and staff will work in good faith with me towards achievement of our goals.
- If the organization does not fulfill its commitments to me, I can call on the Board President and Executive Director to discuss these responsibilities.
